    Amazon seller fees in 2026

Selling on Amazon in the US involves up to four kinds of fee. The calculator adds them up for one unit.

    FeeRateWhen you pay it
Referral fee15% for most products; other categories have their own rates, mostly between 5% and 20%. A $0.30 minimum applies in mostOn every sale, charged on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap

Books, music, video and software also pay a closing fee of $1.80 per item on top of the referral fee.

    Amazon referral fees by category

The referral fee is Amazon's commission. These are the US rates the calculator uses:

    CategoryReferral fee
Most categories, including home and kitchen, toys, sports, pet supplies and office products15%
    Clothing and accessories5% at $15 or less, 10% from $15 to $20, 17% above $20
Beauty, health, personal care and baby8% at $10 or less, 15% above $10
Grocery and gourmet8% at $15 or less, 15% above $15
    Consumer electronics and computers8%
Electronics accessories15% up to $100, then 8% on the part above $100
Jewelry20% up to $250, then 5% on the part above $250
Furniture15% up to $200, then 10% on the part above $200
    Automotive; business and industrial supplies12%
Books and media15%, plus the $1.80 closing fee

Amazon's full schedule lists more categories. If yours isn't here, choose Custom rate and type the percentage.

Worked example: a $29.99 product with FBA

    LineAmount
    Referral fee (15% of $29.99)$4.50
    FBA fulfillment fee$3.96
    Fuel and logistics surcharge (3.5%)$0.14
    Storage and Professional plan share$0.45
Total Amazon fees$9.05 (30.2% of the sale)
Product cost, inbound shipping, prep and ads$11.35
    Net profit$9.59 (32% margin)

Amazon keeps about 30% of this sale. Add the product and advertising and roughly a third of the price is left as profit.

    What is break-even ACoS?

ACoS, or advertising cost of sales, is ad spend divided by the sales it produced. Your break-even ACoS is the share of the price left over before any ad spend. In the example it is 42%: an ad campaign running at a higher ACoS than that loses money on every unit it sells.

ACoS is ROAS turned upside down, so a 42% break-even ACoS is the same as a break-even ROAS of about 2.4x. The ROAS calculator has a conversion table.

FBA vs FBM: which is more profitable?

With FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) you send stock to Amazon, which stores it, ships each order and handles returns. You pay the fulfillment and storage fees, and your listing is eligible for Prime delivery.

With FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) you keep the stock and ship each order yourself. You avoid the FBA fees but pay for your own label, packaging and time.

Small, light products that sell quickly often do better with FBA. Heavy, bulky or slow-selling items often do better with FBM, because fulfillment and storage fees grow with size and time. Use the FBA and FBM buttons in the calculator to compare the same product both ways.

How to use the Amazon FBA calculator

    1. Choose FBA or FBM and enter your selling price.
    2. Add your costs per unit: the product, shipping to Amazon (or your own label for FBM), prep and advertising.
    3. Pick your category so the right referral fee is applied.
    4. Enter your FBA fulfillment fee. The fee preview in Seller Central shows the exact figure for your product's size and weight.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does Amazon take per sale?

A referral fee of 15% in most categories (others mostly between 5% and 20%, with a $0.30 minimum), plus a fulfillment fee per unit if you use FBA. In the $29.99 example on this page, Amazon's fees total $9.05, about 30% of the price.

What is the Amazon referral fee?

It is Amazon's commission on each sale, charged on the total sale price including any shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays. The rate depends on the category and is 15% for most products.

How much does it cost to sell on Amazon?

The Professional plan is $39.99 a month and the Individual plan is $0.99 per item sold. On top of that you pay a referral fee on each sale and, if you use FBA, fulfillment and storage fees.

What is a good profit margin for Amazon FBA?

As a guide, a net margin under 15% leaves little room for returns, storage and rising ad costs, and 15–30% is healthy for most products. Check your margin after every fee and your ad spend, not only the referral fee.

Is FBA or FBM more profitable?

It depends on the product. FBA usually suits small, light items that sell quickly; FBM can keep more on heavy, bulky or slow-moving items. Enter your numbers and switch between the two to see the difference.

Does the calculator include the fuel and logistics surcharge?

Yes. It is a separate field set to 3.5% of the FBA fulfillment fee. Enter 0 if the fee you copied from Seller Central already includes it.
