    PayPal fees in 2026

PayPal charges a percentage of each commercial payment plus a fixed fee. These are the standard US rates:

    Payment type (US)Fee
PayPal Checkout, guest checkout, invoices, Pay with Venmo3.49% + $0.49
Send and receive money for goods and services2.99% + $0.49
    Pay Later4.99% + $0.49
    QR code payments in person2.29% + $0.09
    International paymentsAn extra 1.5%

Currency conversion adds roughly 3–4% more when PayPal converts the money. UK sellers pay 2.9% + £0.30 on domestic payments, with different international surcharges. Rates can differ by account, so check PayPal's merchant fee page for yours.

    How PayPal fees are calculated

Fee = payment × percentage + fixed fee
You receive = payment − fee

    On a $100 PayPal Checkout payment: $100 × 3.49% + $0.49 = $3.98, so you receive $96.02. As a goods and services payment the fee is $3.48. From a buyer abroad, 4.99% + $0.49 applies and the fee is $5.48.

How much to ask for to receive a set amount

Amount to ask for = (amount you want + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage fee)

To receive exactly $100 through Checkout, ask for ($100 + $0.49) ÷ 0.9651 = $104.13. Choose Amount to ask for in the calculator to do this for any amount.

    PayPal fees on small payments

The $0.49 fixed fee hits small payments hardest. On a $10 Checkout payment the fee is $0.84, or 8.4% of the money. If you sell many low-priced items, compare this with Stripe's fees and price small items with fees in mind using the target price calculator.
