Etsy vs Shopify vs eBay for this product
Same price and costs, each platform's own fees.
How the comparison works
The calculator applies each platform's own fee rules to the same sale. Etsy takes a listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 for processing. Shopify charges only a card fee, plus whatever you enter for your plan and apps. eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee and a per-order fee. Switch the platform buttons at the top to edit each one's fee settings.
| Fee (US, 2026) | Etsy | Shopify Basic | eBay |

| Monthly cost | None (Etsy Plus optional, $10) | $39, or $29 billed yearly | None (stores optional) |
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing and renewal | None | 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 |
| Sales commission | 6.5% of order total | None with Shopify Payments | 13.6% final value fee (most categories) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | 2.9% + $0.30 | Included in final value fee |
| Fixed fee per order | $0.45 in total | $0.30 | $0.40 ($0.30 at $10 or less) |
| Advertising fees | Offsite Ads 12–15% on attributed sales | Your own ad spend | Promoted Listings, from 2% |
What the table doesn't show
Fees are only half of the comparison. Etsy and eBay bring buyers to your listings; on Shopify you pay for traffic yourself through ads, social media or email. If Shopify saves you $2.79 an order but you spend more than that on ads to win each sale, the marketplace keeps more money. Our Etsy vs Shopify guide shows how to run that test, and the break-even ROAS calculator tells you how much you can afford to spend per order.
Which platform suits which seller?
- Etsy suits handmade, vintage and craft supplies, especially when you're starting out with no audience.
- eBay suits used goods, collectibles, parts and branded items people search for by name.
- Shopify suits sellers with their own audience or ad budget who want control of branding and customer emails.
Many sellers use more than one: a marketplace to find new customers and their own store for repeat buyers.
Frequently asked questions
Which platform has the lowest fees?
Per order, Shopify with Shopify Payments usually has the lowest fees, followed by Etsy, then eBay in most categories. Shopify's monthly plan and marketing costs can change that ranking for low-volume sellers.
What percentage does Etsy take?
For a US seller, Etsy takes 6.5% of the order total as a transaction fee plus 3% + $0.25 for payment processing, and charges $0.20 per listing. That's 9.5% of the sale plus $0.45 in fixed fees, or about 10.6% on a $40 order. Offsite Ads add 12–15% on orders that come from Etsy's ads.
How much does eBay take per sale?
In most categories eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee on the total sale, including shipping, plus a per-order fee of $0.40 (or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less). Payment processing is included in that fee. On a $40 order, that's $5.84.
How are Shopify fees calculated in 2026?
With Shopify Payments in the US, each online order pays a card fee of 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic, 2.7% + $0.30 on Grow or 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced, charged on the full amount the customer pays including shipping. On top of that you pay the monthly plan: $39 for Basic, or $29 a month billed yearly. If you use an outside payment provider, Shopify adds 2%, 1% or 0.6% depending on the plan.
Can I sell the same product on all three?
Yes, as long as each platform's rules allow the item. Keep stock in sync so you don't sell the same unit twice.
