    How Stripe fees are calculated

    Fee = payment × (2.9% + surcharges) + 30¢

    On a $100 US card payment the fee is $3.20 and you receive $96.80. With an international card it's 4.4% + 30¢, or $4.70; if currency conversion is also needed, 5.4% + 30¢, or $5.70.

    How much to charge to net a set amount

    Amount to charge = (amount you want + 30¢) ÷ (1 − 2.9%)

    To receive $100 from a US card, charge ($100 + $0.30) ÷ 0.971 = $103.30. Choose Amount to ask for in the calculator for any amount or rate.

    Stripe vs PayPal

    For standard US online payments, Stripe costs less than PayPal Checkout: $1.03 against $1.36 on a $25 payment. Many stores offer both, since some customers prefer to pay with PayPal. The PayPal fee calculator shows the other side. On Shopify, payments run through Shopify Payments, which is built on Stripe, at your plan's rate; see the Shopify fee calculator.
