eBay selling fees in 2026
For most categories, eBay's fees come down to two charges on each sale. Payment processing is already included.
| Fee | Rate (most US categories) | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Final value fee | 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | Total sale: item, shipping and sales tax |
| Per-order fee | $0.40, or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less | Each order |
| Promoted Listings (General) | Your ad rate, from 2% | Total sale, only when a promoted listing sells |
| Insertion fee | $0.35 after 250 free listings a month | Each listing over the allowance |
Some categories use different rates, including books and media, guitars, trading cards, watches and sneakers over $150. Store subscribers get lower final value fees in many categories, and sales to buyers outside the US carry an extra international fee. Check eBay's fee page for your category, or read eBay fees explained for the details.
Worked example: a $35 item with $5 shipping
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Final value fee (13.6% of $40) | $5.44 |
| Per-order fee | $0.40 |
| Total eBay fees | $5.84 |
| Item cost, label, packaging and ads | $16.70 |
| Net profit | $17.46 (43.7% margin) |
With a 5% Promoted Listings rate on the same sale, eBay would charge another $2.00 and profit would drop to $15.46.
How to keep more on eBay
- Bundle small items. Two $10 sales pay two per-order fees; one $20 sale pays one.
- Set Promoted Listings rates with your margin in mind. The ad fee comes straight out of profit, on shipping as well as the item.
- Compare platforms. The table under the calculator shows the same product on Etsy and Shopify.
Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay take per sale?
In most categories eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee on the total sale, including shipping, plus a per-order fee of $0.40 (or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less). Payment processing is included in that fee. On a $40 order, that's $5.84.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is charged on the total amount of the sale, including the shipping the buyer pays and any sales tax eBay collects.
What is the eBay per-order fee?
A fixed $0.40 on orders over $10 and $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, charged on top of the final value fee.
Are Promoted Listings fees charged on shipping?
For General campaigns, the ad rate applies to the total sale amount, including shipping and taxes, when a buyer clicks your ad and buys within 30 days.
Do eBay Store subscriptions lower fees?
In many categories, yes. Basic and higher Store plans get reduced final value fees and more free listings, which can outweigh the subscription for regular sellers.
