The short answer

For US sellers, Depop usually takes the least: no selling fee, just 3.3% + $0.45 for payment processing. Mercari takes 10% of the item price plus shipping. Poshmark takes the most, 20% (or $2.95 under $15), but its buyers pay for shipping. The cheapest platform isn't always the best one: what sells, and how fast, matters as much as the fee.

The same $40 item on each

An item that cost you $12, plus $0.50 of packaging. On Mercari and Depop the buyer pays $6 shipping and you buy a $6 label; on Poshmark the buyer pays for the label.

PoshmarkMercariDepop
Platform fee$8.00$4.60$1.97
Net profit$19.50$22.90$25.53

Depop leaves you about $6 more than Poshmark on this item. If a Depop boost brought the sale, its 12% fee would add $5.52 and the gap would almost disappear.

Small items

Under $15, Poshmark's flat $2.95 is a big share: on a $10 item it's almost 30%. Mercari would take $1 and Depop about 78 cents. For cheap items, bundles help on every platform, and on Poshmark especially, because a bundle pays one 20% fee instead of several flat fees.

Payout speed and seller protection

Fees aren't the only difference. Each platform releases your money after the buyer confirms delivery or a set period passes, and each has its own rules for returns, disputes and items that arrive damaged. Before you commit to one platform, read its seller policies for returns, since a generous return policy can cost more than a few percentage points of fees.

Which platform suits what

  • Poshmark: women's fashion, brand-name clothing, shoes and bags, with buyers used to the shipping set-up.
  • Mercari: a broad mix, from homeware and toys to electronics and collectibles.
  • Depop: streetwear, vintage and Y2K fashion, with a younger audience.

Many resellers cross-list on two or three platforms and let each item sell where it fits best. If you do, keep stock in sync so the same item can't sell twice. To compare with bigger marketplaces, see the eBay fee calculator.
